Combat Rules Empty Combat Rules

Combat is done through either challenges or open combat. In a challenge, terms are discussed and agreed upon by each person, such as weapons, type of match, judges..etc. Whatever rules are decided upon override the default combat rules.

In open combat, people attack one another without a challenge or even fair warning. Open combat always uses the default combat rules and in this scenario serious injury or death are always possible.

There are no time limits and the fight only ends when an opponent yields, is dead/incapacitated or is simply called off mutually by everyone involved.
There is no chance for escape, as there is nowhere safe to run to in any direction for several passangs.

The outcome of the fight should ideally be worked out by those doing the fighting, however, if judging is needed Kobal has the final say of the outcome.

To make the fight as easy to follow, judge, as well as realistic as possible, each person should know the exact capabilities of their and their opponent's weapons as well as the physics behind the movements they are attempting.

Reacting to damaging hits and rping the effects of accumulated damage is a MUST.
To decide how your opponents attack hurt you and if it logically hit or missed, consider their physical characteristics. For example, a person's weight and body type determines their strength, speed, agility and reach. A person's weight combined with the of their weapon determines how much power is behind the attack, which indicates how damaging the attack is, as well as how effective your block/parry was. Their reach, combined with the length of their weapon determines whether their attack can reach you at any given distance. The lighter and more agile a person is, the more likely their movements will be successful vs. their opponent's. Whether its moving away from an attack or closing distance to attack. The accumulated weight of their weapons also affects their mobility, the more weight they are carrying, more restricted their movements.

To determine the severity of damage taken, consider the locations of things like major arteries and vital organs, which will tell you how badly an injury is bleeding out.

Pre Combat posts:
Combat begins with an intent post. This is a post identifying your target, by their exact screen name and your intent to harm them. This can be made before or after you have brandished a weapon/made threatening gestures. The post shoud be straightforeward and MUST contain the word INTENT. This post marks the exact time where it is no longer valid for the intended target to post an exit/x out of the room. Whether the intent post is replied to or not, the attacker can proceed to posting their weapons.

Weapons Post:
After the intent post is made, but before the first attack can proceed, the attacker and defender need to list every weapon they will potentially be using in the combat and where on your person they are. Directing someone to a profile or link is not valid. If a weapon is used in combat that is not listed in this post, it will be invalid. Keep in mind the weapon still has to be unsheathed from somewhere during combat. There is no limit to the amount of weapons you can carry, but the combined total weight will certainly affect your speed and mobilty, which will be reflected in the judging. Improvised weapons that are part of the room itelf need not be posted here. The defender has 1 minute to list their weapons, starting immediately after the attacker has posted theirs. After one minute had passed, the attacker can proceed with their 1st attack.

Rules for open combat:
-Combat is turn based
-Two minutes are given for each post to be made. Going over the limit will void the post of whoever was posting. The other person can then proceed with their turn.
-Each turn consists of 3 actions, to be dispensed between offense and defense as desired.
~attacks such as attempting to hit with a weapon, attempting to hit with a shield, kicks, punches, leg sweeps, head butts all count for one action.
~attacks that also incorperate movements such as closing distance, rolling, leaping..etc. before attacking, count for an additional action per movement.
~defenses such as parries with a weapon, blocks with a shield, ducking, sidestepping or otherwise evading an attack count for 1 action.
~movements that are not used in conjunction with attacks or defenses do not count towards actions. These actions are things like switching weapons, manipulating objects in rooms, taunting opponents..etc.
-If more than 3 actions are used in a post, only 3 will be considered valid. The first 3 actions will be the valid ones.
-When you are finished a post end it with <e>
-If you have questions or comments about what has just been posted, when it is your turn to post, post a ! or ?, before you begin typing your post. This wil halt time for 20 seconds for you to ask your question. Questions must be as clearly and to the point as possible, answers even more so.
-If someone disappears from the room due to loos of internet/power etc..the fight will resume when they return. If they are not heard from in 48 hours, the fight is void. If the person is seen, but refuses to finish the fight, then the other person is declared the winner and whatever spoils were at stake go to him. Refusal to role play the current scenario, such as being mortally wounded, or incapacitated, as agreed upon by those involved, or ruled by a judge, will result in that person being banned and publicly declared dead/captured..etc..

I faithfully encourage and hope that most combat can be left up to the individuals involved to settle honorably, without outside interference, in a respectful manner.
There is always a lot at stake in these situations and they tend to bring a high level of drama and tension, which is welcome as long as it is kept in an rp context. Remember that rp is for entertainment purposes and not to make things personal no matter how heated rp becomes. Respect is what it all boils down to..and hopefully some fond memories as well.
